39 weeks pregnant with Riley

Date: January 1, 2014

How far along -  39 weeks

Growing Baby- She's probably able to flex her limbs now. Her brain is still rapidly developing -- she's getting smarter by the week! Her nails may extend past her fingertips.

How big is your baby?
Symptoms- heart burn, feet swelling and hurting bad. Emotional and hormonal. I feel like I've gained 75 pounds. Other than when my back was killing me, this has been my worst week yet.

Weight- 136.2 lbs

Total weight gain/loss: +23.2 lbs

Belly measures- 39"

Cravingsweets, soda, waffles

Bought- 3 pack of long sleeve white onesies, got a few pieces of clothes as gifts, our tandem stroller thanks to a gift card we got for Christmas.

Done- Put car seat and sun shield in car. Put all bigger clothes(12m +) passed down from Madison in totes in the attic. Packed mine and Alan's hospital bag.

To Do: Have this baby!

Looking forward to
- my Dr appointment tomorrow.

Other thoughts- Still dilated at 2cm and half effaced as of last Thursday.

38 weeks pregnant with Riley

 Date: December 25, 2013

How far along -  38 weeks

Growing Baby- She may have about an inch or so of hair already. She's slowly shedding that white goo on her skin but you might see some of it at birth.

How big is your baby?
Symptoms- heart burn, getting comfortable at night very hard, sore throat for months now, feet are killing me

Weight- 135.2 lbs

Total weight gain/loss: +22.2 lbs

Belly measures- 39" at belly button

Cravingsweets, soda

Bought- Alan's coworkers brought in a ton of diapers and wipes, along with, toys, socks and a blanket. We got gifts of a gift card for the tandem stroller, USC onesies, sleepers, bottles, pacis, breastfeeding supplies, burp cloths and an outfit from friends and family for Christmas. I got a car sun shade and an owl bank.

Done- Doctor last week(Friday) checked and I am 2cm dilated and half effaced(thinned out). She said by the size of Riley's head, and the weight I've gained that is all in my belly, she will likely be close to/over 8 lbs.

To Do: buy stroller and a couple of odds and ends. Decide on middle name.

Looking forward to
- Doctor appointment tomorrow to see if I'm dilated any more.

Other thoughts- 2 weeks! Starting to think she may not come until January after all..

2nd pregnancy versus the 1st

The 3rd most popular question this time-right behind "When are you due?" and "Do you know what you're having" has been "How does this pregnancy compare to your first?"

With Madison, I worked until 3 weeks before she came. I didn't feel or look as big as I did now. I could nap on the weekends when I wanted. Heck, I don't really remember what we even did on the weekends or after I got home from work. I craved lots of sweets with her and I ate my weight in them! I could count on Madison to get the hiccups every day around 1pm, after I ate lunch. She would keep them for 30 minutes or so. She still keeps the hiccups for a long time when she gets them! I felt like I was pregnant for roughly 2 years with Madison. I loved every second of it. Feeling all of those first kicks and hiccups and all of the newness that came with it.

Now, I am a stay at home mom. I have a 27 month old that I'm having to keep up with, wake up early to rush to get ready before she wakes up, take her to school and pick her up a few hours later. I feel like I'm so much bigger. I'm staying more tired. My feet hurt so bad and my back has really had a hard time this pregnancy! I don't have the cravings I had with Madison. I will randomly crave a margarita, Mexican food or some salty chips. I do tend to have a bowl of cereal every night around 9:00 so I guess that's my craving. It's good since my glucose test was borderline gestational diabetic. I feel like there are more trendy maternity clothes or maybe I've just lucked up. Most of the shirts tend to be striped though. I seriously do not need any help looking wider! I've had 10x the heartburn than I did with Madison! Riley's knees and elbows feel like tiny razors when she rolls around but luckily she doesn't roll around like Madison did! She gets the hiccups about twice a day and she moves around mostly at night after 9pm. She doesn't move constantly like Madison did so I'm hoping that means she naps!I feel like I've only been pregnant 5 months. It has flown by! I guess I just don't have time to sit around and think about it. I love being pregnant. I don't always act like it or look like it but I do. I love the miracle we've created and feeling them move around. While we are sure we are 2 and done, I will miss not ever being pregnant again. It's an amazing feeling!

We also get the question "Will you have a 3rd/try for a boy?". Um no. We are beyond blessed to have Madison, much less Riley. We were very unsure that we would even get pregnant a 2nd time, after trying so long for Madison. We are perfectly content with our 2 girls. Plus, the surgery is already on the schedule ;) The doctors thought we were a bit crazy scheduling it the day we confirmed we were pregnant at 4 weeks. "Oh, we're sure we don't want more than 2!"

35 weeks pregnant with Riley

Date: December 4, 2013

How far along -  35 weeks

Growing Baby- Now, her hearing is fully developed, and she responds best to high-pitched noises.

How big is your baby?

Symptoms- heart burn, feet swelling and hurting bad, getting comfortable at night very hard. Exhaustion.

Weight- 130.2 lbs

Total weight gain/loss: +17.2 lbs

Belly measures- 39"... but this was after breakfast, 2 cups of coffee, a Sprite and half of my lunch. I normally measure before eating but I didn't have time this morning.

Cravingsweets, soda

Bought- Our first Family of 4 ornament. 4 snowmen with our names on each one. 2 birds for Riley's room.

Done- Passed down some toys and books from Madison to Riley. Now I have to find a spot for them.

To Do: Put blackout liners on curtains, iron on the "big/little" sister to the shirts I bought. Straighten up Riley's room again. Figure out this girl's middle name!

Looking forward to
- massage, Santa pictures at a local garden, party at vendor of Alan's house.

Other thoughts- She has dropped super low. I feel like if she drops any more, I won't be able to sit down! I had a doctor appointment today. Her heart rate was in the high 130s/low 140s. The doctor that delivered Madison was the one I saw. He said typically the 2nd labor is easier than the first. I laughed and told him that my labor with Madison was easy and I couldn't imagine an easier labor/delivery story. I'm very hopeful for this one! He also said that, although unpredictable obviously, he feels I won't go to my due date. He said they will start checking my cervix at 37 weeks and I am now going to the doctor every week from here on out!

34 week comparison

34 weeks with Madison
 126.2 lbs
Belly measures 37.5"
total weight gain to date 19.2 lbs and 7.5" gained in my belly.

34 weeks with Riley
129.6 lbs
Belly measures 37.5"
total weigh gain to date - 16.6lbs and 7.5" gained in my belly

I definitely look bigger. More round. I weighed less pre-pregnancy with Madison than I did with Riley. It's so weird that my belly measures the same at the 34th week yet I look so much bigger with Riley.

5 on Friday

Five on Friday is just random thoughts. I'm linking up with the blogs above today. What 5 things are on your mind?

One
-Madison is still going great with her potty training. We have some hiccups here and there and she's not wanting to poop in the potty yet but that's to be expected. She has not had any accidents at school all week!

Two
-I'm looking forward to our mountain trip coming up, now more than ever. I want to disconnect for a while.

Three
-I'm so much more anxious to have Riley than I was to have Madison at this time in my pregnancy. Not that I wasn't excited to have Madison, I was, I was just so nervous to have Madison that I was scared how it was going to go. Now I know the procedure and what the pain felt like and all of that, I'm not so nervous about that. I am a bit nervous about if I go into labor at home, since I had to be induced with Madison. That makes me nervous :)

Four
-We have our maternity session with the fabulous Carrie this weekend. She has done Madison's past 2 birthday parties and some other photo sessions with Madison. It was roughly 98 degrees the morning of our maternity session with Madison. This year it will be quite chilly! We are doing it at a strawberry/pumpkin farm. I'm hoping the trees still have leaves! I'm anxious to see what she has up her sleeve! I promise to not bring impossible Pinterest ideas, Carrie! :)

Five
-I have that urge to nest. To clean the house from top to bottom. To get things organized and donated or tossed out. Then I sit down and get lazy. Argh!

Other thoughts- Mentioned to the Dr that I feel Riley has dropped and she confirmed it. She said it actually doesn't mean anything unless I'm having contractions. She said every pregnancy is different and some ladies drop early and some don't drop until labor.
