Sunday Social - December 29

1. What is the best New Years Eve you've ever had?
We went to the beach years ago. We aren't big drinkers, dancers, club goers or music/concert lovers so none of the parties were for us. We walked around aimlessly trying to find somewhere to fit in. We couldn't justify paying $30-$50 to get into a club to just sit around and not do much. I think we just ended up hanging outside in the common area with a drink. Woohoo!

2. Are you doing anything for NYE this year and if so what?
Nope! I will be sleeping, most likely. Unless Riley decides to come in the next 2 days. Then I could possibly be in the hospital or up with a newborn :)

3. Name a book we should all read come January?
Oh I don't read.. No suggestions here.

4. What are your new year's resolutions?
I will make a separate post about this coming up this week. Be a better wife and mom tops the list though.

Madison's Christmas 2013

We ran into Santa at the library last week. We had not taken her to take a picture with him because she had a hissy fit when we bumped into him at the General Store on Thanksgiving. This was as close as she would get.. and she had to be bribed with a candy cane. She got candy and I got a Santa picture. Win win.

We made these salt dough ornaments last week and I let her paint them all. She had so much fun! We then varnished them and I let her pick out an ornament for each set of grandparents. We gave them to them when we got together. We also kept one for our tree and one to keep in her ornament box for her future tree.

We made chocolate chips together and she left out 2 with some milk and cookies for Santa and
carrots for his reindeer

Madison must have been a really good girl this year!
Train table, stamp kit, keyboard, Nabi 2 tablet, puzzle, stickers, bedroom shoes, Aquabots fish with tank, ladybug night light stuffed animal, candy Wiggles microphone, books, movies, sun catchers and ceramic animals to paint.

38 weeks pregnant with Riley

 Date: December 25, 2013

How far along -  38 weeks

Growing Baby- She may have about an inch or so of hair already. She's slowly shedding that white goo on her skin but you might see some of it at birth.

How big is your baby?
Symptoms- heart burn, getting comfortable at night very hard, sore throat for months now, feet are killing me

Weight- 135.2 lbs

Total weight gain/loss: +22.2 lbs

Belly measures- 39" at belly button

Cravingsweets, soda

Bought- Alan's coworkers brought in a ton of diapers and wipes, along with, toys, socks and a blanket. We got gifts of a gift card for the tandem stroller, USC onesies, sleepers, bottles, pacis, breastfeeding supplies, burp cloths and an outfit from friends and family for Christmas. I got a car sun shade and an owl bank.

Done- Doctor last week(Friday) checked and I am 2cm dilated and half effaced(thinned out). She said by the size of Riley's head, and the weight I've gained that is all in my belly, she will likely be close to/over 8 lbs.

To Do: buy stroller and a couple of odds and ends. Decide on middle name.

Looking forward to
- Doctor appointment tomorrow to see if I'm dilated any more.

Other thoughts- 2 weeks! Starting to think she may not come until January after all..

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from our house to yours.

This has been a great year for us. Finding out in May that I was pregnant again, in July that it was a girl, Madison starting school in August, celebrating Madison's 2nd Birthday and our 7th wedding anniversary in September, joining our church, Madison getting baptized, transitioning Madison to a toddler bed, and potty training her.. along with lots of great other things in between. Looking forward to what 2014 brings.

Christmas Decor

You can read our post about our annual tree trip here. Well here's the rest of the story..

We got the tree home and Alan managed to get this massive beast into the house since I'm not much help. We quickly learned that our tree stand was not big enough to hold it up so Alan made a run to Lowe's to pick up a tree stand made for bigger trees. Got home and it didn't work either. Fast forward to a couple of days and 3 tree stands later(including 1 that actually broke!), I had went to Home Depot to pick up 2 stands that we hadn't tried. When Alan got home, we tried one of them, only to have it not work either. Alan laid the tree down to give us a minute to think and he noticed a huge crack in the tree trunk! It went up the tree as far as we could see-at least half way! Alan went to get his knife to see how deep it was and it was about an inch deep.. So glad the tree wouldn't stand up now, as frustrating as it was. I'm pretty sure it would have fallen at some point.

The next day, we went to a local nursery to pick out this tree. It's not nearly as tall or pretty but it will do and Alan had no issues getting it up. Here's the finished product.

Madison had so much fun decorating this year.

2nd pregnancy versus the 1st

The 3rd most popular question this time-right behind "When are you due?" and "Do you know what you're having" has been "How does this pregnancy compare to your first?"

With Madison, I worked until 3 weeks before she came. I didn't feel or look as big as I did now. I could nap on the weekends when I wanted. Heck, I don't really remember what we even did on the weekends or after I got home from work. I craved lots of sweets with her and I ate my weight in them! I could count on Madison to get the hiccups every day around 1pm, after I ate lunch. She would keep them for 30 minutes or so. She still keeps the hiccups for a long time when she gets them! I felt like I was pregnant for roughly 2 years with Madison. I loved every second of it. Feeling all of those first kicks and hiccups and all of the newness that came with it.

Now, I am a stay at home mom. I have a 27 month old that I'm having to keep up with, wake up early to rush to get ready before she wakes up, take her to school and pick her up a few hours later. I feel like I'm so much bigger. I'm staying more tired. My feet hurt so bad and my back has really had a hard time this pregnancy! I don't have the cravings I had with Madison. I will randomly crave a margarita, Mexican food or some salty chips. I do tend to have a bowl of cereal every night around 9:00 so I guess that's my craving. It's good since my glucose test was borderline gestational diabetic. I feel like there are more trendy maternity clothes or maybe I've just lucked up. Most of the shirts tend to be striped though. I seriously do not need any help looking wider! I've had 10x the heartburn than I did with Madison! Riley's knees and elbows feel like tiny razors when she rolls around but luckily she doesn't roll around like Madison did! She gets the hiccups about twice a day and she moves around mostly at night after 9pm. She doesn't move constantly like Madison did so I'm hoping that means she naps!I feel like I've only been pregnant 5 months. It has flown by! I guess I just don't have time to sit around and think about it. I love being pregnant. I don't always act like it or look like it but I do. I love the miracle we've created and feeling them move around. While we are sure we are 2 and done, I will miss not ever being pregnant again. It's an amazing feeling!

We also get the question "Will you have a 3rd/try for a boy?". Um no. We are beyond blessed to have Madison, much less Riley. We were very unsure that we would even get pregnant a 2nd time, after trying so long for Madison. We are perfectly content with our 2 girls. Plus, the surgery is already on the schedule ;) The doctors thought we were a bit crazy scheduling it the day we confirmed we were pregnant at 4 weeks. "Oh, we're sure we don't want more than 2!"

Sophie, Madison's Elf on the Shelf. Days 1-7

She woke up Sunday morning on our Boone, NC trip to find that Sophie had arrived and was hanging from the fan!
Day 1

She thought she was so interesting! Alan read her the book which explains the story of the Elf. If you aren't familiar, there are boy and girl elves. They are Santa's helpers and come on the 1st of December and watch you and report back to Santa whether you are good or bad. You aren't allowed to touch them because they will lose their magic. Every morning, they are in a different place in the house.

Day 2
Watching Madison's DVD player while eating Puffs

Day 3
Waiting to eat

Day 4
Ziplining in the kitchen

Day 5
Resting in a bowl of bells after ziplining all day the day before
 Day 6
Hoping this helps with Madison's potty issues!

Day 7
In the Christmas tree

Potty training- 1 month in

It's so funny the things you talk about when you have kids :) We had a 20 minute conversation with another couple that have 3 toddlers the other day about potty training. Most of mine and Alan's texts or phone calls here lately involve some sort of poop or pee question, cheer session or snippet of what she has done that day. I still text or call Alan when she poops so he can praise her. She loves being praised and being the center of attention so we feel this helps her.  She also gets a treat when she does poop. In the beginning, we gave her stickers, let her put stickers on her board and gave her a piece of candy every time she peed or pooped but we backed off the peeing part once we felt she had it. When she poops now, she gets stickers put on each hand and some sort of treat(usually Nerds-they are her favorite!)

We feel like she is doing very well. She has had a few accidents at school and a couple at home here and there but for the most part, she is doing very well with telling us or going when we take her. She still wakes up wet at night some but I try to get her up at least twice to potty. Sometimes she wakes up dry in the morning and sometimes not. She went an entire week waking up dry after at least 5 hours of not getting up to potty. We are relying on her, for the most part, to tell us when she needs to go. She knows when she feels the urge and may say "Go potty!" and then not go when you take her and then by the time you get back to what you were doing, she will say it again. She has done very well this weekend with the pooping part. She has told us every time she needed to go. She still acts scared to do that in the potty and sometimes won't pee in the potty if she has to poop. I think she's scared if she pees, poop may come out too. She will just hold it until she can't hold it anymore and then finally either goes when we take her or she will tell us. She even pooped at a house she had never been to on Friday!

I don't have much advice as I feel like we've kind of flown by the seat of our pants with it. We've changed our methods a bit. We have never, however, went back to diapers. We have went from not letting her sit on the potty long to letting her sit there 20 minutes.  From taking her without asking, to asking to letting her tell us. Giving her treats to backing off of them after a while. It really depends on you and the child. What you feel comfortable with and how the kid reacts to it. Some people say Madison is too young(she's now 27 months) to train but we didn't want 2 kids in diapers! I just hope she doesn't backslide when Riley makes her appearance!

Maternity pictures - 33 weeks

I am in love with these pictures. Carrie is our photographer and if you are in Upstate SC, contact me so I can tell you her info! I love that they are so different from Madison's maternity pictures too.
