Pregnancy #2 weeks 9-12

June/July
How far along: weeks 9-12

Growing baby- By week 9, the embryonic tail is gone. Your baby's looking more human every day, with protruding limbs and fingers, a defined nose, mouth, and eyes, and tiny earlobes. Your new resident is about the size of a grape and weighs a fraction of an ounce. It's hard to believe how rapidly one cell evolves in such a short time into the unmistakable body of a baby. Fingerprints and nails are forming, and eyes and ears move into place so your baby can squint and grimace. At ten weeks and barely the size of a kumquat, your baby is entering the fetal stage of development. His facial features are defined, and his tooth buds are forming. Over the next weeks, his tissues and organs will rapidly grow and mature. The webbing is gone between his fingers and toes, and his nails and fingerprints are developing. Your baby can open and close his fists and curl his toes. Thanks to his developing muscles and reflexes, he's now moving his limbs and kicking up a storm. Through translucent skin, his vital organs are visible and functioning, including his growing brain, nervous system, intestines, and liver, which is making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac. The umbilical cord is working hard now. One vein delivers oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to your baby. Two arteries then carry the blood away. Around week 12, the kidneys have begun producing urine, which your baby will soon start excreting into the amniotic fluid. He'll swallow the fluid, and the process will begin again.

Symptoms- tired, weight loss, hips really hurt

Weight-109(week 9 and 10), 108(week 11), 107(week 12)

Craving-cereal, deli sandwiches

Bought- a pair of maternity shorts and 10 maternity shirts, 5 newborn shirts, 3 newborn sleepers, 2 newborn onesies

Done- had first ultrasound at 8 weeks 6 days, told everyone at week 12

Looking forward to- Our next doctor appt July 2(heartbeat only), not worrying so much about hiding my belly.

Baby's first picture
His or her heartrate was 193 and it measured to my exact due date! Baby was also moving around like crazy but I still can't feel it yet :(

Pregnancy #2 weeks 4-8

May/June
How far along: weeks 4-8

Growing baby-Within a week of conception, your fertilized egg, known as a blastocyst, will make its way to your uterus. The egg is about the size of a pen tip. In days, the cells in the egg arrange themselves into groupings. The inner cell mass will become your baby. The outer cells will become the amniotic sac and placenta. The blastocyst then sheds its protective casing in a process called hatching, and burrows into the lush uterine wall. Around week 5, your developing baby is the size of a sesame seed. The cells that once formed the blastocyst's inner cell mass begin organizing and arranging, giving shape to the young embryo and forming primitive organs. Your baby's brain and spinal cord are visible through his translucent skin.
Right around this time, your baby's circulatory system also forms and his heart begins to beat. Your baby looks more like a tiny tadpole than a human. He's drawing nutrients and oxygen through the newly formed placenta and umbilical cord. By week 9, the embryonic tail is gone.

Symptoms- really tired, as in bed at 9 and napping with Madison, tired.. bloated, hungry but not wanting to eat, super grumpy, nauseous, hips really hurt

Weight- 113(week 4 and 5), 112(week 6 and 7), 110(week 8)

Craving- Dr Pepper, Chinese food, salad

Bought- a 3 pk of onesies that I put in Alan's gift to let him know I was pregnant, 3 sleepers, a onesie, pair of pants, 8 bibs, an outfit including a hat, Your Pregnancy Week by Week book(I "What to Expect" with Madison so I wanted something different. I really like this book!)

Done- Told our parents. Signed up for a few magazine subscriptions, confirmed with Dr, had ultrasound on June 4

Looking forward to- Telling people that don't know, first Dr appt/ultrasound(8 weeks 6 days)

Week 5-May 8
113 lbs - 30" belly
I never lost my pooch completely from Madison, but I'm also bloated.

Week 6-May 15
112 lbs- 31" belly
I feel huge this week.
Week 7-May 22
112 lbs - 29.5" belly
My belly went down overnight it seems! Weird.

Week 8-May  29
110 lb - 29" belly
Starving but not wanting to eat=losing weight.

Family of 4!!

We started trying last August. I stopped breastfeeding then and we knew that if we wanted to try for a second child, now was the time to decide. I called my OB while we were in Charleston and she put a new birth control(I was on one safe for breastfeeding and you need to switch after stopping) on hold for me in case we decided not to try once we got back. That way it'd be ready when we got back and once I was off the birth control I was on at the time.  So we decided to let God take the wheel.  9 months later, here it is!

It was the day I was supposed to start my period. I had a funny feeling I was pregnant because I had been craving Dr Peppers like nobody's business! I had more in a week than I've had since 2010!  I just had that feeling. So I woke up on May 3 and took a test. Just as the liquid slid to the left, so did a + sign. Like, lightning fast. Alan had left for out of state on the 2nd and wasn't due back until the night of the 3rd. I didn't want to tell him over the phone so I waited until he got home. He actually said "Do you remember what happened last time I was in Ohio? The Dr wanted to put us on some medicine to help out with the process of getting pregnant with Madison. Now I hear our baby girl playing in the background. Your period is due, right? How do you feel? Is it coming?" and I say "Boy how things have changed! He was pretty wrong! Oh, I don't know.. I am kind of cramping"

When I got Madison up that morning, I told her that she was a big sister and did she want a baby? "Yep!" she said. Then of course she kept saying "Baby, baby baby" and even said it on the phone with Alan but he didn't ask and I didn't mention it :) We ran to Target to pick up a card, another pregnancy test and a 3pk of onesies that say "I'm new here". So we came home and I took it and just as quick as the last one, "Pregnant" came up on the screen. I put the test in a jewelry box in a box with onesie and the card.  I have since taken about 6 tests.

He opened it up and just kept saying "Wow" over and over. "Welcome home!" I said :)
Our due date is January 8, 2014!

He stopped to get Chinese on the way home(before he found out) and here's the fortune that was in his cookie..

We are very excited to be blessed with another baby. We know Madison will be a great big sister. She has such a big heart and has a ton of love to share!

Please pray for the health of him/her and for me as well. I've been having lots of symptoms since finding out. More on that to come tomorrow! :)

More randomness

-I feel like we've been so busy lately. Between the birthday party planning, gymnastics, not napping(to keep my sanity, we leave the house), library activities, Father's Day, working in the yard.. whew! I just want a weekend where we don't do much.

-Speaking of the library, ours is pretty awesome. I've been taking M to story time since she was probably 3 or 4 months old. They read stories and play music and dance. Do nursery rhymes, finger plays and have puppet shows. They have a summer reading program where once you read your child so many books, they get a free book and a reusable bag. M got hers Thursday. This and next month they are having all sorts of activities from game days to reptiles. Last week a few local businesses(coffee shop, farmers marker, culinary students) set up in the parking lot and gave away free pasta, tomato plants and info. The farmers market had some great fruits and veggies for super cheap. I love that all of this stuff is free!

-So my sweet hubby worked until 6pm last week. I had supper in the oven one night but I kept wanting a pizza. I text him. He called and said he'd stop by a local place on the way home. He got there, ordered, and text me "25 minutes" ... 10 minutes passes and I say "Have you paid? Add a salad if not" He gets home 45 minutes later. Best.husband.ever. Best pizza? Notsomuch. Thanks honey!

-Madison has been anti nap for about a week. She goes down great at night but naps have been kind of whacky. Sunday, she fell asleep in the car and Alan put her down when we got home and she only slept 30 minutes. Monday, I put her down around 1(her normal nap time) and she went down great, played for about 30 minutes and then screamed. I let her cry a bit but eventually got her up. She ate, went upstairs to play and I put her back down at 4. I decided to put a book in her crib to let her play with it. Worked like a charm! She went down great and even fell asleep without crying!

-We cancelled Netflix last month. We just found that we were keeping movies for weeks, only to watch 15 minutes and turn it off because it was horrible. We agreed that we'd just do Redbox if we wanted to watch. We have watched about 5 movies since then. I think I've only paid for 1. They text me free codes about every week and then you can find them online as well. I watched Safe Haven Thursday. So good! Oz. Not so much. Very strange.

-Alan and I had a date night 3 weeks ago. It was really nice. We went out of town to a restaurant we'd never been before. It was really nice. Afterward we came back home to Barnes and Noble and had coffee and a cookie. We weren't out late but it's always nice to just enjoy each other. Looking forward to our next date, which we need to get on the books.

-Worked on our landscaping this weekend. Alan smoothed out the dirt and we worked on getting some of those roots from the bushes out. We went to a local nursery and picked up 8 small bush plants and 2 flowering plants. They all get about 3' tall and they all bloom flowers at some point of the year. Got those planted last night. Looks so much better! Now to get mulch down!

What have you been up to lately?

Reading... Scary Mommy Motherhood Comes Naturally

Loving.. that when Madison asks for "Barney" in the car that when I say "Barney night night", it works! She will say "Shhh Barney sleeping" and won't ask again. Mommy-1, Madison -0.

Not loving.. Madison's anti-nap phase going on right now. Also, her seperation anxiety phase. She cried the whole hour she was in nursery at church yesterday. They had to take her riding in their buggy to calm her down. Frustrating to say the least.

Watching.. Catfish. I love this show and how stupid people are! I'm glad the new season is starting tomorrow!

Feeling.. tired

Random goodness

I know I haven't been blogging much. Here's a mish mash of what's going on!

-We have decided to join the church we've been attending. I think it's a great mix of what Alan and I are both looking for. They have a contemporary and traditional service which suits us both. The contemporary service serves coffee, juice and donuts during the service and has a praise band. They meet in the gym and the sermon gets piped in through video. We have enjoyed going and they have so many activities during the Summer. They have something every Sunday after church. It's also Madison's future preschool. We will be joining in the Fall and Madison will then get baptized.

-I think reading isn't for me. I just tried reading Confessions of a Shopaholic. A series that every girl has loved. Well not me. Maybe it's the non-reader in me. Maybe it's the frugal side of me. I just couldn't read more than 30 pages. I got stressed reading about a girl who had maxed out all of her cards, yet kept spending money. I know there was probably a great ending to the story but I couldn't do it. So I picked up Scary Mommy's Motherhood Comes Naturally. I love her blogs. If you are the faint of heart or want to read nothing but sappy kids' stories, this blog isn't for you! She gives you the true side of parenting. It's not all butterflies and lollipops(though she does add a few of those stories here and there) I'm hoping I can get through this one. It's only a 14 day rental so I sure hope so! :)

-Are you on Instagram? I have now made a seperate account to sell Madison's clothes. I have also bought some clothes for me and shoes for her on there. Super cheap. Email me to get my shop name if you need girl clothes newborn-18 months size!

-Speaking of clothes, I racked up at NY&Co yesterday. I went to the mall to buy a gift and wanted to walk around. Glad I did! They had 80% off racks! I got a pair of pj pants and 4 or 5 shirts for the price of what 1 of their shirts normally cost! Score!

-I have bought all of Madison's birthday party supplies. Plates, napkins, cups, forks, decorations, favors, etc. I also bought her a shirt to wear that day. All I need to get now is a "2" candle(2 Walmarts didn't have them!), the food, invitations, some ribbon(a quick Hobby Lobby trip) and order her cupcakes and cookies, if I can settle on a design I won't change 5 times like I did last year. Oopsie.. Her party photographer was booked back in April. I've also made her invite list and menu. I'm on a roll, ya'll!

I have a lot more ramblings but I will post another one in a few days :) What have you been up to? Comment with your ramblings!

Wedding Day

You know I have never blogged about our gorgeous wedding day?! Holly and Melanie are hosting a linkup just for that! Any reason to look back on our gorgeous pictures is fine with me!

We got engaged March 17, 2006. He surprised me by taking me to Grove Park Inn, after tricking me by turning into a couple of places on the way. We took the really long way around.  He couldn't have picked a better place. We enjoyed the spa that weekend and the views. I mean, look at those views! He did good! :) This was right after he proposed on the front porch.

A little background- Alan's grandmother used to have a house on Lake Wylie near Charlotte NC. They were members of this botanical garden and enjoyed going there. One day we went with them. As soon as we saw it, I knew this was where we wanted to get married. I didn't care what we had to do!  I knew it was far away(2 hours for most of our friends/family) but I was determined to get married there.

I didn't want to wait to get married. We called Daniel Stowe and they had an open slot for September 8, 2006. Put us down! Planning an out of town wedding in 6 months? Easy! It was on a Friday night but it really worked out because we were able to leave for our honeymoon on Saturday and would get back on a Saturday and have that Sunday to rest. We still like vacationing Saturday-Saturday. Call us crazy. Plus Friday was cheaper than Saturday and Lord knows we needed all the help we could get since we were paying for it ourself.

Somehow I ran across a one stop shop for weddings. She did the cake, tables, flowers, music, photographer, set me up with a local hairdresser, the works. Being that it was far away and I had no idea of who was good and who wasn't, we were game! We met with her, gave her our details, went over food, music, flowers, etc. It was SUPER easy.

Thursday, we had our rehearsal and then a dinner at T-Bonz on the Lake with our immediate family. We elected to not have a bridal party and I'm so glad. It was just him and I. All the focus and attention was on us. The one time in my life where I wanted it that way. :) That night, I stayed with my mom in Fort Mill and Alan stayed at a hotel. I didn't sleep a wink! I tried sleeping on the couch but my brain heard it raining outside. Since the wedding was planned for outside, I started freaking out internally. I got up to look outside and it looked like it was raining. The next morning, I got up and it hadn't rained. The window I looked out of had some sort of tint or coating on it that made the window look wet. Whew! A quick lunch at McDonalds and the day was to begin around 3 I think. Alan played golf with his brothers and dad.

My mom and I got our hair and makeup done at a nearby salon. She and my stepdad walked me down the aisle.  We got to DSBG at 4 to get ready for pictures. We got this tiny room! I later found out that Alan had a huge room. I'm the one with the big dress, people!

About 30 minutes before our ceremony, it started raining. It only rained a few minutes and people were able to wipe the seats out and it was gorgeous the rest of the night! I walked down the aisle to The Feather Song from Forrest Gump. We had a string orchestra that played and I loved it. I still can't hear that song without tearing up!

People told us while we were saying our vows, hummingbirds kept fluttering around, chirpping. You can hear it on our wedding video!

We danced to "Some People" by Leann Rimes. Some people may not know that we ran out of wine during our reception. As in, fast. We were walking back from taking our pictures right after the ceremony and our coordinator comes running out "Someone needs to go get wine, we're out".. Luckily his brothers made a wine trip!

Guests had access to walk around the gardens and I hope everyone got to see it. It's a gorgeous place and we have been back at least once a year since then.

We stayed in Charlotte for the night and left for Barbados the next morning!

Fathers Day Recap

We got up at our normal time and went to breakfast at Waffle House. Alan said he'd like to go to Mt. Mitchell, so that's where we went! We went up to the tower and then hiked a short trail that made a loop. It was about 20 degrees cooler up there, but was actually kind of nice.

I think Madison enjoyed riding in the backpack but I'm afraid it will be her last year in it. She will have to hike next year!

After we left, we came back through Hendersonville and ate outside at an Irish Pub. We had a really good day doing all the things we love. We hope Alan had a great day because he deserves it! He's an amazing Daddy and Husband and we love him so much!

It's a mess out there!

We have hated these bushes since we moved in. They are massive and we have no idea why the landscaper put them in. We finally decided that we would take them out! So after Madison went to bed last night, we decided to get out and work until dark.

See the huge purple bush on the right? Well there were 3 to the left of it.. gone!

Me and Madison got out a little bit this morning to clean up a bit. We also removed 4 huge green bushes from this area and will be removing the 2 purple and another green bush tonight.

You can see our windows!

Sorry for the huge brush pile and tire tracks, neighbors! Hopefully it will be gone in the next couple of days when we finish.

We will plant some very small evergreen bushes and some colorful perennials in the place of those huge bushes! Hoping to have it all done in the next 3 months!
