Playtime with Madison - 8.5 months

Thought I would give a glimpse of what Madison's playtime looks like. I lay down a blanket
and throw a ton of her toys on it so she can play with whatever she wants. I sit in
the floor with her and go over the toys and name colors with her.
I will add that it's hard to get an in focus picture of a baby that won't sit still...

How does one baby get so pretty?

The beginning.. Lots of toys!

She chooses her paci first.. Everything ends up on her right side.

Swinging it around..

 The start of the pile

She played with the doll a while...

 ..then down she goes.

Fun taggy blanket

 ...you guessed it!

 Playing with the barn

and as always, everything gets taste tested.

Yum...

Sweet baby girl!
If you look close, you can see the white in her bottom gums..
We are thinking teeth will pop in in the next few weeks.

Mother's Day recap

This year was obviously very special for me, being my 1st Mother's Day, excluding last year when I was pregnant. Alan left me 3 sealed envelopes and told me to pick one. I picked one and it said that we would go to the place we got married - Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. Then eat at Texas Roadhouse, which is one of  my favorites. We had just went to Charlotte last weekend to stay at my mom's and go to the Wells Fargo golf tournament, so I promised to go next year when Madison can also enjoy it a bit more. I decided to open the next envelope (I'm such a bad surprise getter) It said we would go to Hendersonville, NC -one of our favorite little mountain towns to go to, go eat at Binions, get a caramel apple at Kilwins and come back home to go strawberry picking. We had just went to Hendersonville a couple of weeks ago for a day trip so I opted for the last envelope.. This man knows me well though. He's picking all my favorite places to go, eat and things I have mentioned doing! The last envelope said we would do a picnic at a local park and then go to the local zoo. Mother Nature, however, did not like this idea and decided to rain all day :( We decided to head to where the zoo was(about 45 minutes away) anyway. It was around 11am when we left so we made a pit stop at Denny's for a late breakfast. It kept raining so we decided to go walk around the mall, after a stop by Starbucks. We walked around the mall then went by another store and then headed to Alan's mom's to eat supper. I don't feel too terrible for picking the other 2 envelopes since the rain would have ruined all of our plans, since they were all outdoors. Here are some pictures from yesterday!

4 Generations - Gimmie, Nimmie, Alan and Madison

Being a mom is the best thing ever. I never knew I could love and care for a person the way I do her. My whole world has changed. She is so special to us and words can't describe what she means to us. A big thanks to my sweet hubby for planning out things for me to do and the sweet cards from him, Madison and our animals. I'm so blessed to have the perfect husband and daughter and 5 of the craziest, sweetest animals anybody can have.

Just some pictures of our beauty

I haven't been using my camera much lately so I decided to take some pictures of Madison playing yesterday morning. We were working on her crawling and every time she 'crawls' to her toys, I let her play with them for a bit to reward her for doing a good job.

Working on crawling

We have been trying for months to get Madison to crawl and she just wasn't having it! Put her on her tummy and she rolls over instantly! We looked up some tips on how to encourage her. Put her on a box, roll a towel up and put it under her tummy, put her hands on a cookie sheet to help her slide.. nothing worked! We picked up a pool noodle Monday and this has seemed to help her more than anything! She moves her feet so fast but it helps hold her tummy off the ground and it rolls much better than a towel!

Here's a video from today

Happy 8 months, Madison!

She started "dancing" at 31 weeks! It's so cute! I haven't gotten a video yet of it but she will stand up with our help and bend her knees. It's really cute!

She went through a 2 week period around 32 weeks where she was waking up at 7am and playing or talking to herself. She would end up falling back to sleep but then by that time I was wide awake! Thank goodness she stopped!

34 weeks -  During story time, she started clapping. When did she learn this?! She also didn't want to sit down during the stories being read.. Just wanted to stand the whole time. If I sat her down in my lap, she would push herself up. Did she grow overnight?!

We have cut back to 2 jars of food a day- 2 oz at breakfast, 2 oz at lunch and 4 oz at supper. Peaches still seem to be her favorite.  I took this picture of her at 34 weeks while feeding her peaches. By the time I get the spoon back to the jar, she's already got her mouth wide open! It's so cute :)

She also loves her mesh teether. Her favorites in it are strawberries and frozen bananas. I usually give it to her while me and Alan are eating supper so she is content until she eats.

This was taken at my mom's before they left for church today. We spent the night at my mom's Saturday night and she kept Madison while we went to a golf tournament. Mama took her to church today and said she did great! Even helped play hand bells!

She seems to be growing overnight sometimes! She talks all the time, except when other people are around. We have a shy little butterfly! She gets sweeter and sweeter and she's so funny! We are working on her crawling. She doesn't seem to want to get up on her knees and just wants to roll onto her back when we put her on her tummy. When we hold her tummy off the floor, she moves her feet real fast. She's getting the idea but we have a little ways to go! I will never sit down when she figures it out!

Here's a video of her laughing!

Home made taco seasoning

While making my grocery list and printing recipes from my Pinterest board, I remembered I had pinned a homemade taco seasoning recipe. Sure, those packets you get in the store are super cheap at .50-$2.00 but you can make 5x the same stuff for the price, plus who knows what's in those little packages, not to mention they are loaded with sodium(something we have tried to cut back on in our house)... I keep hearing the phrase "If you make it, you know what's in it!" so I decided to make my own.

First off, I store all of my spices in these little glass containers I bought from Bed Bath & Beyond. When I need a spice, I don't like having to look through all the spices in my pantry to find what I need. I just write what it is on the top of the container(mine have a white top, not black) and keep them in ABC order on the shelf. Why don't spice companies labels the tops of their spices, instead of the front?

Homemade Taco Seasoning

Ingredients

  • 1 part chili powder
  • 1 part ground cumin
  • 1 part garlic powder
  • 1 part onion powder
  • 1/4 – 1/2 part crushed red pepper

(I did include red peppers, just didn't get the container in the pic)

I just labeled one of my containers "Taco Seasoning" and put it in front of Thyme :) I then made a label to put on front that says 3 Tbspn = 1 packet so I know how much to use when I have a recipe that calls for 1 packet of seasoning. 3 Tablespoons may be a little heavy so you may want to use 2.

Now I can't wait to make something with it this next week!
