This was the first beach trip for both Madison and Wilma(with us). We found a great house on a lake about 30 minutes from downtown Charleston.
A flock of about 30 geese stayed right outside at any given time
Wilma found her inner puppy. She played the hardest we've ever seen her play!
Day 1- Friday, August 10
We got up at 5:30am to get ready to go. I had packed up the car the day before so all that was needed was bathroom supplies and us! We got on the road by 7:30, stopped at Waffle House, ate and got to our house by 12. We were pretty surprised at how nice the house was. The pictures really dated it. The lake was really nice and Wilma immediately jumped in! We unpacked, hung out a while and needed to get some things at the store so we drove around exploring a bit, an we stopped to eat at a local place, then came back home.
Enjoying her food
Day 2- Saturday, August 11. Alan's 37th birthday. I made him a big breakfast and we went into Charleston(we are about 30 mins away) We found a cupcake shop and I went in to get him and me a birthday cupcake! He wanted Japanese for his birthday supper so we found Miyabi- after driving around using the Yelp app. We ate and they came and sang To him and made him dance, which Madison enjoyed! We then came home.
This girl's expressions crack me up! She is definitely my daughter :)
Some random downtown pictures..
First attempt with chopsticks.. She almost has it ;)
Making a wish
Dancing with Daddy to the birthday music they were playing
Birthday flowers.. They could have at least done blue :/
They made Alan get up and dance.
Day 3-Sunday, August 12- We decided to do a beach trip to Edisto this day. It's one of the two beaches in the Charleston area that allows dogs on the beach on a leash during the day. We went to a store at the beach to buy an umbrella, got settled, opened it and it was broke. I took it back, exchanged it and we set it up. The beach was covered in seashells and walking in water with flip flops on is hard! Wilma absolutely hated the water. We think it was the sound of the waves crashing. Madison hated the water at first too but seemed to get used to it. She really seemed to enjoy playing in the sand.
Day 4 & 5 - Monday, August 13 & Tuesday, August 14 - We didn't do much these days but hang out around the house.
Eating taco soup
Trying get open the giant Smarties
This child loves ice cream!
Who says girls can't drive trucks?!
Day 7- Thursday, August 16- Crystal's 32nd birthday. Alan went out to Hardee's and got us biscuits. We also decided to go into downtown and walk around King St and get a late lunch.
We walked around King St and I decided to eat at Hyman's Seafood. Here's Madison enjoying her Mac & Cheese
Some shots of Society Drive
A church turned house.. It's huge!
Wilma got in on this one
I also decided to have my first adult beverage since October 2010 here. I had been working on weaning Madison from breastfeeding for the past 2-3 weeks and officially stopped on Wednesday(15th) She has enough frozen that she will be given breastmilk until she's 13 months! Cheers!
Birthday late night snack
Dr Pepper, Red Velvet cupcake topped with Fruity Pebbles and Heath Ice cream
I hear my heart slowing down...but it was yummy!
On the way back, we decided to stop by the Angel Oak Tree. We were a few minutes past closing but I was able to snap some pictures through the fence. What a gorgeous tree!
We had a late lunch Friday at a Mexican place. They were playing pretty loud music and Madison danced the entire time we were there. She loved it!
We left about 11:30 today and made a couple of stops on the way home. I ended up sitting in the back between Wilma and Madison and Wilma was very comfy on my lap!
We had a great trip and it was much needed. We haven't taken a full weeks vacation in 3 years so it was way overdue! Madison seemed to have a good time and it was great to see Wilma have such a blast in the lake. We love making memories together and now sharing those memories with Madison make them even more special!
